Music, from an early age, was a big part of Donnie’s life. He began playing drums in his local church at seven years old and began playing for weekend bands at the age of fourteen; these bands were regional but, the music and touring along with his love for international travel is among the reasons that he has remained in the music industry on a full time basis since the mid eighties.
He thought that teaching or vet medicine was in his future but once he caught the music bug it was hard to shake. At twenty-two he was given the chance to audition for an up and coming band called MidSouth, he got the drummers position, the band got a record deal and moved to Nashville, TN. He was their drummer for eight years, along the way they won several national awards and had a string of top 5 songs. He later would become an owner of this band. This lead to learning more skills on the
management end of the music industry.
Donnie has worked in many genre’s of music including Country, Gospel, Classic Rock, Christian Country and Bluegrass. During his long career as Tour Manager his resume includes legends such as Tammy Wynette, Trisha Yearwood and has been touring with Peter Frampton for over 10 years.
During his illustrious career he has worked shorter stints with Steve Wariner, Michael McDonald, Florence Henderson and several others. He has been a liaison for artists at events such as The Grammy’s, The Oscars, The Beatles 50th Anniversary of their Ed Sullivan appearance, World Series Major League Baseball, The Atlanta Olympics and several White House events.
Donnie is also an entrepreneurial person; he has promoted concerts, done sports photography for several national sports publications and most recently became a Director of a travel company based out of Dallas, Texas that specializes in the online travel market. He is responsible for opening up new markets in the US and has business associates in several countries including Germany, Malaysia, Honk Kong and Singapore.
In 1990, Donnie was honored with a special award commemorating his work with Feed The Children, from co-producing events to tour managing a special tour to bring awareness to this great charitable organization. Donnie still sponsors kids through Feed The Children today.
Donnie has mentored many tour mangers, songwriters and others in the music industry, he says its very rewarding to see these music folks develop into great leaders of the future in the music and entertainment world.
