Troy Von Haefen has always had a love for helping people understand their personal finances. He enjoyed a successful career in the music business as a professional guitarist traveling with highly acclaimed artists, such as Lee Ann Womack. While touring, he found himself discussing colleagues’ investment portfolios, and after helping several of them attain financial stability, he decided it was time to change professions. Today, Troy owns and operates Von Haefen Financial Management and continues to bring comprehensive, holistic financial planning (including tax preparation) to folks in a concise and understandable manner. Troy has been quoted in numerous publications, including The Wall Street Journal, The Chicago Tribune, Kiplinger’s Retirement Report, and Smartmoney.com. RJ entered the health insurance industry 15 years ago after a 15-year career in the music industry that encompassed performance (both touring and as a studio musician), production, artist management and music publishing, where he established co-publishing agreements with eight #1 songwriters, including two Grammy Award winners. In 1995, RJ began working with national small business associations, leveraging buying power to provide quality, affordable health insurance options to their predominantly self-employed memberships, which included professionals in the music industry. In 2006 RJ architected a health insurance program initially for the Country Music Association called CMA Sound Healthcare, a first for the music industry. After a year of exclusivity with the CMA, Stillwell led Sound Healthcare’s expansion in strategic partnerships with other major music associations and organizations to become the premier healthcare advocacy and health insurance organizations in the music industry.
In 2014, Sound Healthcare formed a partnership with New York Life, becoming Sound Healthcare and Financial in the process, adding comprehensive retirement planning to the list of services offered to its distinguished clientele, and earning the distinction as the first Nashville partner in New York Life’s 169 year history. Today, Sound Healthcare and Financial serves 16 major associations and organizations across the nation. Its clients include many ACM, CMA, Americana, IBMA, and Grammy Award winners.
RJ serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee and is a member of CMA, ACM, AMA, and The Recording Academy.
